Pressotherapy is device-assisted lymphatic drainage with compressed air. The client puts on a cuff suit and the compressor inflates the chambers in sequence, imitating a wave of manual massage from the feet upwards. Lymph and venous blood move towards the centre and excess fluid leaves the tissue. It is one of the most comfortable treatments — the client simply lies down for 30–45 minutes.
Indications: leg oedema and lymphostasis, cellulite, heaviness in the legs, recovery after training and flights, rehabilitation after liposuction, prevention of early-stage varicose veins, detox programmes.
Contraindications: thrombosis and thrombophlebitis, heart and kidney failure, pregnancy, oncological disease, acute infections, open wounds and trophic ulcers, recent fractures in the treatment area.
A consultation before the course is mandatory: the specialist takes the medical history and rules out conditions in which the treatment is not allowed.
A course is 10–15 sessions every other day, 30–45 minutes each. Maintenance: 1–2 sessions a week, or a course twice a year.
Lighter legs and reduced swelling are felt right after the first session. A lasting reduction in volume (2–4 cm) and better skin condition come by the end of the course.
The main factors are the number of chambers per cuff (more chambers mean a more precise wave; 8–24 is the sweet spot), the set of cuffs supplied (trousers, belt, sleeve, boots), the pressure range and the number of programmes. Check the cuff material too: quality fabric disinfects easily and does not crack under daily cleaning.
